APC UPS, 600VA UPS Battery Backup & Surge Protector, BE600M1 Backup Battery Power Supply, USB Charger, Back-UPS Series Uninterruptible Power Supply
The reviews are confusing because they include reviews of a wide variety of sizes. This review is for the 600 va model. I bought two from amazon, one for the tv & satellite receiver and another for my wife’s pc. I also own a cyberpower 1500 va unit for my own hardware which has a lot of external hds and other stuff connected. The units work well for their intended purpose. I got about 35 minutes on a 32′ lcd tv, a wifi router, a 5 port switch, a dish satellite receiver /dve and an external (sleeping) hd on the dvr. On my wife’s celeron pc + a 22′ lcd monitor i got about 45 minutes. I am in the boondocks in new mexico and we have a lot of power issues. These units work well in this environment. One of the questions i see concerns silencing the alarms.
Internet is king, and most of us would have serious withdrawals should the internet go down for any extended time. So when i read the news that my town would be in the path of hurricane florence, i decided to buckle down and get something that could support our modem and router for an extended power outage. Prime shipping had this apc ups battery backup delivered the next day and the system was very easy to assemble out of the box. Upon unpacking, you have to plug in the internal battery (disconnected to stay safe during shipping) which does briefly cause minor, but expected, sparking. The battery slides into place easily and the cover re-attaches with moderate effort. The battery is shipped mostly depleted, so do not expect this to power your devices for hours right out of the box. After about 24 hours of being plugged in, you should be good to go. We have a google mesh wi-fi system, and this battery supports one of the wi-fi routers plus our netgear cm700 modem. After owning this device for about 30 hours, we experienced our first power outage. 5 hours and the ups performed spectacularly. It immediately kicked in when the power went out and supported both the router and modem continuously during the outage. While this ups comes with the ability to be monitored via a usb connection, i do not have that set up at this time so i don’t know how much juice was left in the ups after the 3. This is one of the small drawbacks for this ups, as it doesn’t come with a built-in display to check load or battery levels.
I just received this battery backup unit and it appears to function properly. However for a $100+ battery backup from the apc brand it should have a 30 cent switch to mute the audio alarm when required. There are situations where you already know the power is off and are managing the situation that you don’t need yet another alarm making a bunch of racket. It is ridiculous that there is no way to mute the audio alarm on this rather expensive device when all it would take is a simple button. Had i realized that it was missing this simple and obvious feature i would not have purchased this device.
Bought this because my tripp-lite finally gave out after 4 years. Hook everything up and there is a ‘building wiring fault’ burning on the back of unit. I have never had an issue with any other ups’s in this plug. They want me to get an electrician to check out my wiring. Yeah right, i’m gonna hire an electrician to come over and check my wiring because their $58 piece of electronics says there’s a problem with the wiring. It’s going back and i’m getting another tripp-lite.

Can you adjust the alarm settings or totally disable the alarm?
Yes, UPS’s that are connected to computers can have their sensitivity settings adjusted in the PowerChute software; also you can specify what hours you want to disable the alarm, if desired. The alarm ‘mode’ can be set via the power button.
Does BE600M1 have a replaceable battery?
When it’s time to refresh the battery, APC offers a User-replaceable battery for model BE600M1 under part # APCRBC154 (sold separately). Depending on usage, a UPS battery typically lasts for 3-5 years before needing to be replaced.
How do you turn off the alarm?
You can temporarily mute some alarms with a 1-2 second press of the Power button, which mutes an alarm until the condition that caused the alarm is reset. Critical events (i.e. Battery replacement) require unit to be turned off.
How long will this UPS power my system when the power goes out?
The runtime of any UPS will vary based on the amount of power required by your the devices plugged into the battery backup outlets. In the PowerChute Software, you can see ‘Estimated Battery Time’ based on the power-draw of your connected devices.
Can I plug a printer into a UPS?
Due to the large amount of power used by printers, APC does not recommend connecting them to a UPS below 1500VA. If printers are connected, it may cause the UPS to transfer to battery repeatedly, exhausting the battery unnecessarily.
