Tripp Lite OMNI1500LCDT 1500VA UPS Battery Back Up AVR LCD Display 10 Outlets 120V 810W Tel & Coax Protection USB
I am very happy with this ups. I did quite a bit of reading before i purchased it because of some of the mixed reviews. I’ll cover the ones it seemed were mentioned the most. When i first plugged mine in it had a very slight odor for the first couple weeks. I would pretty much have to be sitting right next to it to notice. The fan can hardly be heard when it’s running and the unit is virtually silent all other times. Mine has never been more than barely warm to the touch.
So there’s nothing sexy about a ups. I bought this one because i’m familiar with the brand and that’s about it. It’s fairly large & heavy compared to the last ups i bought. There are two problems that immediately prevent me from giving it more than just ok status. It smells bad and it’s strong. That ‘hot plastic’ smell in unmistakable even with the windows wide open. Worse than any product i’ve ever bought. Just like power strips if you have any large connectors you aren’t going to be able to get them all plugged in side by side without another purchase. (i was offered extensions on purchase. You would think manufacturers would focus on this a bit more because if you can only use half the plugs.
We live in an area where our power has been going out more frequently each year. So we tested five units on generator power. With the generator running (westinghouse 7500e), the test is with approximately 3000 watts running the house. . Apc be550g continually clicked over to the battery (back and fourth). Cyberpower cp1000avrlcd, cyberpower cp1000pfclcd, and apc br1000g all accepted the generator power until i turned on the microwave. Then the units continually clicked over to the battery (back and fourth). Tripp lite smart1300lcdt was the only one that accepted the generator power and stayed on the generator power even when i turned on the microwave. In other words, the tripp lite did not continuously flip over to the battery and back again, it stayed on the generator power. We went with the tripp lite because the avr (automatic voltage regulation) was the most consistent and stable of the group we tested. If running sensitive electronics on generator power, you might want to look into ‘on-line’ ups.
There is a major flaw with this device and almost all similar tripp lite devices except the su series. And that is the unit does not auto turn itself on. Say you have a router plugged into this device and power is lost to your home. This unit will keep the router powered just fine, until this unit’s battery is drained. Believe it or not, when power to the home is restored this unit will not auto-turn on and send power to the router. You have to manually push a button on this unit to start it. I have confirmed it with tripp lite tech support. In my case i am leaving my home for a few months so no one would be around to push this unit’s on button.
I have had this ups for 3 years, its worked great. Originally purchased it for a house with bad wiring so that when the ac kicked on there was a sag in my room which would shut my computer down. My current dwelling does not have this problem so its just been for peace of mind mostly. However after 3 years this thing is making a relatively loud buzzing. I considered the fact that the batteries could be dead or on their way out so essentially it is always charging them but after getting replacements it still buzzes. I am replacing it with a power strip because i honestly can’t stand to hear that constant buzz.

Power Protection and Battery Backup for Home and OfficeBetween severe weather, the aging electrical grid and hazards lurking inside your own walls, your equipment is under constant attack from power problems. Even a brief loss of power or a momentary surge can ruin your equipment and destroy irreplaceable data. Prevent damage, downtime and data loss by installing this UPS system. It conditions incoming AC power, provides enough battery backup to outlast most outages and automatically saves open files and shuts down computers gracefully during extended blackouts. |
Common Applications– Protect Home and Office Computer Systems: Workgroup Servers, Media Servers, High-Performance Workstations, Office Computers, Gaming PCs, Displays, Inkjet Printers, Modems, Switches, Wireless Routers, Scanners, Storage. – Protect Audio/Video Equipment: HDTVs, DVRs, Video Game Consoles, DVD and Blu-ray Players, Stereos, Surround Sound Systems, Sound Bar Speakers, Streaming Media Players, Home Theater PCs, Cable/Satellite Receivers. |
Reliable Battery Backup– Single-Computer Runtime: This UPS system will support an energy-efficient desktop computer and LCD monitor (75 W load) for up to 55 minutes during an outage. – Half-Load Runtime: This UPS system will support a 50% load (405 W) for up to 7.5 minutes. – Optimized Outlet Array: Five outlets have both battery backup and surge/noise protection, and five have surge/noise protection without battery backup. The ‘surge-only’ outlets allow you to connect additional equipment without overloading the UPS or reducing the backup runtime available during an outage. |
AVR and Surge/Noise ProtectionIn locations with chronic voltage problems, frequent switching to battery drains reserve power and shortens battery life. This UPS system has a feature called automatic voltage regulation (AVR) that solves the problem. The UPS detects when input voltage is out of bounds and corrects it without using the battery. All Tripp Lite UPS systems also include built-in surge protection and noise filtering to shield your equipment from destructive transient voltages and electromagnetic (EMI/RFI) line noise. |
