Brother Compact Monochrome Laser Printer
If you are using google cloud prnt:i purchased this for my mother, who uses a chromebook. Out of the box it will not register under chrome://devices (after completing its wifi setup, which was successful). The printer does not show up as a device. I reset the printer and still was not successful. After setting up the wifi again, i connected to the printer via its ip address (using the chromebook). I was able to update the printer’s firmware using this wireless connection method (google chrome browser). After the firmware update was successful the printer was able to be seen (and registered) in chrome://devices. I was then able to print using google cloud print. This printer has great print quality and superb speed. I was able to print off 12 ticketmaster tickets, with lots of.
For mac users looking to turn on continuous printing, you can do that through your mac just as easily. I connected a usb cable (or connect via wifi), go to apple icon >system preferences >printers & scanners, click on ‘brother hl-l2350dw’, click ‘options & supplies’ button then ‘show printer webpage’. You don’t need to login first time here. From here if your device is connected to your network you’ll get a web interface of all the printer configurations you normally have to use the buttons to toggle through. Now click ‘replace toner’ and set it to ‘continue’. You can also turn off deep sleep here, under ‘auto power off’ >’off’. Took me about 30 seconds from the time i plugged in my usb cable into my mac.
Just pressed the wifi button on the printer and the wps button on my modem – and the printer recognized it instantly. Looking forward to saving $$$ by not having to buy inkjet cartridges for my old epson nx415 – which was constantly telling me that i needed to replace the color cartridges even though i had never printed anything but black. This brother laser printer prints in black only (which is what i need), seems to be well made, and fits nicely on my desk (smaller than the old epson). So far i am a happy customer.
This is a fairly easy printer to set up, even for a girl like me who is not super tech savvy. I literally followed the instruction manual to a t and it worked. My laptop is the 12′ gold macbook running on version 10. It took me several minutes to figure out how to enter my wifi password into the printer without the key pad. (just keep pressing the up/down button until you reach a letter you want, then ok). I ran into the same problem where my laptop couldn’t send print jobs to the printer even though it’s already connected. I suspect the deep sleep signal on the screen to be the problem cos who could work in deep sleep?. (or at least that was my reasoning). So i read through reviews to find a way to turn it off.
I use these small brother laser printers around the home and in two offices for individual printers, and a selling point was being able to find generics for the tn660 toner cartridges for as little as $10 for 2,000+ pages. When i had to add another one, though, the hl-l2350dw appeared to be like any of the older models in the series — with one exception: the tn760 toner cartridges have chips installed on them in an attempt to cut down on the use of generic replacements. Brother has joined the ranks of epson and h-p in the philosophy of ‘cheap razors/printers, expensive blades/toner & ink’ — and making the cartridges more expensive in the process. The printer itself works fine, but the drm on the cartridges is a headache (albeit a minor one. ) all that’s required is pulling the chip off the old cartridge and affixing it to the new one with double-sided tape. I’m inclined to sell the 2350 and buy an older model at a higher price so that i may continue to buy tn660 cartridges in bulk and not have to worry about drm chips.
