Dell 27 LED backlit LCD Monitor SE2719H IPS Full HD 1080p 1920 x 1080 at 60 Hz HDMI VGA
I needed an external monitor for my macbook pro for use primarily with adobe lightroom, and i couldn’t decide on one. I tested this dell, a lower-priced spectre, and a higher-priced philips 4k. Well, this monitor is the keeper. For a non-4k 27′ monitor, i’m quite impressed. Text isn’t noticeably jaggy. Brightness & contrast are strong, colors are clear, robust and consistent. Matches my macbook display’s color (or, certainly close enough even for my picky eye) right out of the box with no tinkering to settings needed. I’m connecting with a usb-c to hdmi cable, i made sure to get a cable that was rated for this purpose (easy to find on amazon). The setup couldn’t have been easier.
I tend to purchase dell for personal products but for monitors and tvs i usually try to get samsung or asus. However, a 27′ monitor on those brands are expensive so i thought i would gamble with this purchase since it was $100 less than what i was looking at. The quality of the picture is great and i couldn’t ask for more. I use it for all of my personal computing needs; however, i do not game so i cannot speak to the quality there but for everything else, definitely a winner.
I had re-arranged my computer desk, and i realized i had room to upgrade my 6 year old 21′ monitor. After reading a bunch of reviews, i decided on this dell 27′ (i ordered a displayport to hdmi converter cord as well). Monitor arrived on time and well packed in a box in a box. I put the stand together in seconds and had everything hooked up in a couple of minutes. I powered up the monitor, and after a select language prompt, i powered up my 2 year old hp computer. Everything worked perfectly the first time. No bad pixels, and the display is very nice. I keep my studio dark, so i ended up turning the brightness way down to 5%, and the contrast up to 80%. I also adjusted my fonts a bit since i have so much screen space now. I’m super happy at this point. I’ll update if there are any problems in the future. All in all, it’s a beautiful monitor, it was a painless setup, and i highly recommend it.
Frankly, not much of a review of the screen itself because it’s perfect. Might as well be a photograph. I do note the viewing angle is so wide that it has no color or picture shifting even when you look at it totally from the side edge on. I do stream video sometime on it (amazon prime video, netflix, etc. ) and i might as well be watching a tv. I don’t use it for gaming (i don’t do shot ’em ups or gta stuff) so can’t comment about that. Specs look good, but gamers are super hard core about bleeding, ghosting, etc. I will say that blacks are very black, which is good, not the funky dark brown/green/blotchy/yuk stuff. I had a se2717h (prior model of this one) that died after being on 24/7 for over two years.
So this is a very budget friendly workstation focused monitor. It even doesn’t have vesa mounts just to save a few bucks, the refresh rate is not suitable for gaming, but keeping that in mind when i bought this i thought at minimum 1) they would rotate and 2) they would at least be color matching out of the box. Nope1) i can deal, that’s fine, not ideal, but fine2) it’s really frustrating. One is clearly way, waaay more yellow than the other. That said, they’re really bright and clear and don’t have any dead pixels or connectivity issues so still workable for my needs but the color thing is really keeping this from a 5 star. Probably should have just gone with the acer for a few more bucks. I messed with the color settings and got them close-ish (2nd pic, and again this isn’t a pantone monitor or even close and i know this) but still not matched and going to drive me nuts. Also there are some good comments about text being pixelated since it’s such a large area with relatively low resolution and i definitely notice that, doesn’t bug me too much since my vision isn’t great lol but if the pixelation would bother you, you probably want something either smaller or higher resolution.
